We missed you on our voyages

In 1968 my father, Herbert Dudnick, then a producer at NBC News, covered an election in California. He took pictures with his Kodak Instamatic camera.

The politician he was assigned to won.
But it proved to be that candidate’s last campaign.
He was assassinated days after his victory.

But even in death Robert Kennedy continued to inspire.
Embodying those qualities which many hold dear:
Courage, compassion, and sacrifice.

And the message that he wrote to me on a campaign bumper sticker, just weeks before his murder, was my entrée into civil rights.

For Craig,
We missed you on our voyages.
Robert F. Kennedy
